WAUBETEK SERVICES TO MEMBER FIRST NATIONS
 
The following is a listing of services provided by Waubetek to those First Nations who:
 
a)  Provide a Band Council Resolution authorizing the delivery of services in the community by Waubetek; and

b)  Provide the annual contribution of $900 to Waubetek.  This annual contribution has been established as a requirement for each of the member First Nations in in North-East ONtario who receiveds Waubetek services to signify equal access to our services regardless of population or size of the community.  This annual contribution has been provided by all First Nations receiving our commercial loan services since 1989.  This contribution also assists Waubetek in leveraging funds for regional economic initiatives.

 
When the above 2 requirements are met, each First Nation recieves the following value-added services:
 
  • Access to our commercial loan services of up to $250,000 to First Nations their registered First Nation community members (including micro-loans not normally provided by conventional lenders).   This is in addition to the Aboriginal Business Canada Program services delivered by Waubetek;

 

  • Business Outreach Services where one of our Business Development Officers visits the community at least six times a year to meet interested clients;
 
  • Assistance and advisory support to the Community Economic Development Officer related to projects, proposals and possible funding agencies;
 
  • An invitation to attend the Waubetek Annual Planning Session to provide input and direction in setting the priorities for the corporation.  Part of the costs to attend this session is subsidized by Waubetek;

 

  • Access to Waubetek-developed templates for funding proposals and business plans;
 
  • Periodic presentations on Waubetek services at Band Council meetings and at community information sessions when requested;
 
  • A copy of our Annual Report;
 
  • Free copies of the Waubetek News which is our newsletter;

 

  • An opportunity to nominate a representative to the Waubetek Board of Directors;
 
  • Participation in Waubetek's regional studies and initiatives such as the commercial fisheries study currently under development; the expansion of the Great Spirit Circle Trail tourism initiative; follow-up on the First Nation economic leakage study; and the development of broadband services;
 
  • Access to our business resource library;
 
  • Assistance to Aboriginal secondary students who are participating in the E-Spirit business plan competition; and
 
  • An invitation for community members to attend the business workshops offered by Waubetek.
 
Where communities have not provided the Band Council Resolution or annual contribution, the services delivered by Waubetek will be primarily related to accessing the Aboriginal Business Development Program only and visits by our Business Development Officers will be provided on an as required basis for projects relating directly to an application to the Aboriginal Business Development Program from a community or business located within Waubetek's service area in North-East Ontario.
