An
Aboriginal Tourism Marketing Strategy was completed for the First Nation
communities in the Manitoulin/Sagamok region which resulted in the recent
launch of the "
Great
Spirit Circle Trail". This initiative was organized to promote the many
Aboriginal businesses that cater to tourism and market the many First Nation
special events as well as the historic/scenic sites. The First Nation
Councils provided endorsements of the strategy and appointed community
representatives to oversee implementation of the strategy. The committee
meets on a monthly basis at alternating locations within the eight First
Nation communities. Community members are encouraged to attend these
meetings.
While this strategy currently includes only those First Nations in the
Sagamok and Manitoulin area, future plans include the possibility of
expanding the Circle Trail upon the review of the results of this particular
marketing initiative.
